utterly in love

Posted by Robert Anderson On Thursday, November 17, 2011 0 comments

i worship you,
see you linger in my dreams,
never doubting the very theme
you have ever, ever
painted across my fragile heart

from the day we met to

the day i found my distorted soul
in convulsions
while crying your pretty name
i would write
each and every whisper
that intimately haunted me.

for to me you are more

than you could ever, ever  believe

trust me,

trust in all the words i write,
then be convinced of --
oh please be convinced
when i say...

i am utterly in love

with you.

she paints
winter's life
in purple sunrise
within the grace
of her only heaven..
embracing that high
for a moment then
the shadows loom

Heart In Stone

No dark trail shall befall beneath her glow
While through and through her soul I paint anew
Where within the fates that bring tomorrow
When by-and-by for years and years bring due
To every moment that we'll both grow in
I'll always long to be with her alone
So here I say I'll fair her always then
Declare it when I etch my heart in stone

a perfect vessel

       a flowing calm
 of tears
     splashed  that
transparent  canvas
by      a soul
who stroke
  through a cold embrace

 it received the  sadness
           which
         burned through  her
and knew
 how mournful her intentions  were

           though
death
      was her only  thought
  and
as bittersweet
    a lullaby
           night could  sing
the canvas to that  painter
was
  avowedly
          her perfect vessel

time immemorial

i rouse the hard luck of my youth
inside my mind then paint it here
for all that i  now understand
it seems to  me that love is rare
the days have  come and surely gone
when i was but  a little boy
my world was  rough and filled with blame
for everything  within that void
no sympathy was  for me then
no solitude for  me to hide
my youth was  but a broken dream
by which a  tearful lullaby
was sung to  calm my weariness
and yet it  failed to sooth my heart
my angels could  not guide me from
the road on  which my soul embarked
with every day  and every night
i whispered  such a hopeful prayer
then closed my  eyes to dream again
into a  place of no despair

Venerating The Poet

through artistry your pen engraves the thoughts you do refine
within your heart to paint what your fair pneuma can design
and by the vitae through the breath of life you dance a dream
which most can say they've always yearned when reading how you gleam
as well as what pure blessings your dear muse awakes by whim
each verse you write but for a chance to gradually un-dim
I feel you are a wordsmith to behold when reading deep
within the tenderness by every poem you wake and reap
you justify the feelings which you hold so deep inside
and let them swirl and turn divinely through your virtues tide
no discomposure can consign to grave your very cause
so by the universe's breath and all poetic laws
you find deliverance within the solace of your lair
to pour the convoluted truth you taught yourself to bear

Without Poetry

What reason would there be to shed a tear
Deep in your soul without the means to say
Just how it stirred you, moved you, brought you near
Your inner worth that often seems at bay
Beyond the aid that draws your feelings in
An instant that you wish you could impress
Upon a surface through a tone you'd spin
So lovely that you'd calm your worldly stress
For every time you yearn to paint your heart
Right from the source of your abyssal dreams
There'd be no way for you to know the art
Of graceful verse when nothing in life seems
To bare the view that can arouse your mind
And have you leave your earthly cares behind

The Cup We Thirst

as tongues place themselves

in positions to create

awkward silences

that refuse to break

and all the things

that conjure

endeavors in the air

serve a bitter notion

simplicity is rare

complication is question

of reason to pursue

answers that

make no sense

and die untrue

throughout the ripples

of longing for the universe

to measure us by

the cup we thirst

'til time ticks away

and turns us to dust

  unto our final hours

into the earth's crust

and stars carry away

our memory in time

  to deem all the ways

we'd be immortalized

  'cause things like that

are in the nature of humans

unless we are but

creatures unproven

to worthiness

destined to lose throughout

the cost of things

we are without

and a poet's mark is

justified deep in

the thoughts that make

him passionate

same as a thousand

painters who

build like bricks

things to be expressed

beyond any word

for we long to be measured

by the cup we thirst

The Painting

I miss the one who painted this for me
Who told me tales of how it came to be
That car she said belonged to my old man
It spun that curb where all her pain began

She captured in it all that haunted her
For years and years the accident would blur
Her mind and let the alcohol seep in
Affecting me: her very next of kin

I've wished so much that with it she instilled
What dreams within it she had not fulfilled
Though I had learned the poison of that tale
Could act as only a dark and blackened veil

She told me that my father would not die
As long as we would never pray good-bye
I trust within her every word as true
While knowing that my father loved me too
But then one day as peaceful as can be
I found her mixing liquor with her tea
The painting lay across from where she sat
With skin so pale, she fell face first and flat

"Mom!" I yelled with a sharp and worried shrill
My heart froze like the painting's moment; still
She looked up at my face and nodded pride
Then whispered "son, I pray you know inside...

How much I love you with all my heart and soul
Please keep the art I brushed with life so whole
And please remember; always envision me
In all the ways I've sought to guarantee

Through that picture I felt I meant so much
It serves as the extent of life I'll crutch
And now dear son, it's yours; that very painting...
Is all, and you, that still will stand remaining"

And so, I promised as her final words requested
Of which her spirit so undoubtedly attested
To forever keep that painting that she did
As a fixed bridge to every thought she bid

Oh, while it hangs on the wall of my garage
I hear her still as the painting's deep mirage
Echoes truth as if I'd seen today
Her painting life into all her tale portrayed

Solace

My truest feelings in my darkest words
Bleed beauty on the page, my muse's eyes
Unveil the eloquence I write disturbed
She captures all the corners of my mind
I hold within the night beneath the stars
The pen which can engrave my murky dreams
And oh, she castles all that paints my heart
To shelter me in solace endlessly
