Dispirited

Posted by Robert Anderson On Friday, October 16, 2009 0 comments

i etch in stone the sight of my mind's eye
through broken words that i have wished for her
to know when all my thoughts bring me to cry
of all the reasons my future's a blur
while memories still linger in my pain
and i hold in my soul this cross to bear
to where i sense through dreams i'll not again
confess my deepest thirst, i now forswear
i cannot claim to be one who exists
nor can i say that i am now at peace
my passion died, i long to bare my wrists
wide open and so forth this hurt will cease
the sadness that she gave me through her ways
will haunt me here and now for all my days

The Last I Will Convey

Two sides within me hunger for my soul
Yet knowing which to call when feeling's nigh
Inhabits me with doubt, I am not whole
Why fight when conflict in my heart does pry
I'll do my best to beat the lesser dead
Or tame them both so I won't go insane
And if the one I nourish in my head
Should balance there the chemicals again
Please give me back the way that I once was
And bring my hope to one day reappear
While granting me the strength I lack because
Within my own undying deepest fear
I am alone with no one there to see
Or save me from the way I go astray
And if I'm meant to fail in the debris
These words may the last I will convey

naive

i see those shadows in
moving shapes of abysmal dwellers;
they linger for awhile then
on a complete whim strike at me

childhood memories take advantage
and stalk my mind and paint their filth

i learned i was never quite as alone
as i had formerly thought,
THEY were always there
in the besieging darkness of my heart

fear is my only companion as i walk forward,
placing my hands blindly in front of me,
and suddenly finding it was my mind
betraying the very windows
to my soul

how naive am i?

The Distance You've Traveled

Who is it that can understand
when things take form in shadows
when there's nowhere to turn to
how can you mangle
the distance that you've traveled
when sleepless nights die to blanket your eyes
is it for a lifetime alone
I can remember when I first saw you
the very essence I've longed
captured on a night of reminiscence
when your heart fell against my fear
lost and unknown while never to the light
have I ever appeared
masses of ocean abided us
like a million beautiful something's
I wonder now what you think of me
whether your thoughts have turned into nothing
